The Problem
AVOMERU buys avocados from smallholder farmers in Tanzania, presses them into cold-pressed oil, and exports to international buyers. Their entire operation farmer deliveries, ripening, sorting, oil extraction, quality testing, and shipping was tracked on paper and spreadsheets.
This meant they couldn't answer basic questions: Where did this oil come from? How much weight did we lose between delivery and processing? How much do we owe each farmer? How full are our tanks right now? Regions with quality avocados?
What We Built
A single system that follows every avocado through 8 stages from the moment a farmer's truck arrives to the moment oil leaves in a shipping container. Every weight, inspection, movement, and quality test is recorded automatically.
- Batch Intake - farmer identified, fruit weighed and graded, purchase order created automatically
- Smart Routing - the system shows different buttons based on fruit quality: fresh fruit goes to ripening, ripe goes to sorting, rotten is fast-tracked
- Ripening - daily inspections track fruit readiness with temperature and humidity readings
- Sorting - fruit weighed on scales, sorted into ready/not-ready/rotten, workers tracked by kg for fair payment
- Oil Extraction - input weight, output oil, and yield percentage tracked per machine per session
- Tank Management - oil levels, quality tests (FFA, peroxide, moisture), and which farmers' fruit is in each tank
- Container Loading - linked to customer contracts with automated payment splits
- Barcode Scanning - workers scan batch labels with their phone camera to see details and trigger actions
